The Story Behind the Wood
What is Cachichira wood ?
Cachichira is a rare hardwood found deep within the Amazonian rainforests of Bolivia and Brazil. Known for its exceptional strength, natural resistance, and beautiful grain patterns, Cachichira wood has been revered for centuries for its durability and timeless character.
Every slab is marked by decades of growth, untouched wilderness, and the rich textures of nature itself.

From Tree To Table
Chad Morton, founder of Rancho Madera, has traveled to Bolivia for over 20 years. Inspired by the beauty and craftsmanship of local woodwork, especially the rare Cachichira, he began bringing pieces home for his personal projects. As demand grew from friends, family and designers, Rancho Madera was born with a vision to share these one-of-a-kind creations across the U.S.
Our journey begins deep within the untouched Amazon, where our team, guided by local experts, ventures into the rainforest to find the most magnificent Cachichira trees. After careful selection and sustainable harvesting, the logs are cut into slabs or custom shapes in a workshop near the forest edge.
From there, they journey to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, home to our main woodshop, where every piece is meticulously crafted, shaped, and finished by hand.
Once completed, the tables and flooring are carefully packed into containers, shipped across the continent, and arrive at our workshop in Texas — ready to become part of extraordinary homes.

We are privileged to work with one of the most magnificent ecosystems on Earth, The Amazonian Rainforest.
A vast, living world that gives life to thousands of plant and animal species, and to the incredible trees that make our craft possible.
Among them, Cachichira trees stand as towering guardians of the forest. Each tree is carefully selected through sustainable practices, never taken in excess, only harvested when their natural cycle nears its end, or when they begin to hollow from within.
These trees, shaped by time and nature, are what give our tables their extraordinary character, raw edges, deep textures, and organic forms that could never be replicated.
No two are ever alike, and each one tells the quiet story of a forest that still breathes.

About the Waters
We fish in Northeastern Bolivia's Beni region, starting our trips on the Negro River with a quick 30-minute sail. Most of our fishing occurs on the San Simon River, where we enjoy 50 miles of exclusive access. Occasionally, we venture into the majestic Itenez (Guapore) River along the Brazil-Bolivia border, a stunning area where we do not have exclusivity.
Versalles Community Partnership
It was an old rubber barrack 150 years ago, located 3 hours away from the lodge. We have a concession agreement for catch and release entrepreneurship, where we bring anglers from all over the world. We train and hire guides, drivers, cleaning staff, and kitchen staff on a rotating 25-day shift basis. The objective is to ensure that all families have equal opportunities to earn income from salaries, community royalties, and exclusive tips.
Our Team
Our team comprises local residents serving as guides, boat operators, and support staff in various capacities. We implement a 25-day rotation system to ensure equitable income opportunities for all families in the community. This strategy supports sustainable practices and economic development in Comunidad de Versalles, enhancing a beneficial relationship between the lodge and local residents
